Types of Mechanisms
Gourmet Precision MECHANISM
Gourmet Precision - Carbon Steel Pepper Mechanism
The carbon steel mechanism is designed to strip peppercorns not crush them, crushing can supress the flavour. Stripping the peppercorn brings out natural oils in the peppercorn, releasing more flavour, aroma and is ideal for the best seasoning during and after cooking. All precision mills are adjustable to change the coarseness of the grind. This mechanism has machine cut, case hardened premium carbon steel.
The carbon steel has surface plating for anti-corrosion protection, more robust performance and increased longevity. The ultra-sharp mechanism design ensures increased grinding durability and the spring loaded design ensures even grinding consistency.
A metal stirrup bar is used rather than plastic giving additional strength, this mechanism will not corrode during usage so you can grind, flavour and season with confidence with its lifetime guarantee.
As well as the features of the Precision Mills, Gourmet Precision Mills take grinding control further, with 6 pre-set settings you can select a fine grind for sauces or effortlessly switch to a coarser grind for steaks and pizzas.
Gourmet Precision - Ceramic Salt Mechanism
This mechanism is made from white alumina ceramic. This diamond-like alumina ceramic is one of the hardest materials known and is 60% harder than the traditional ceramic soapstone. This grinder is therefore suitable for rock salt, giving your dishes maximum flavour. All 'Precision' mills are equipped with a spring mechanism for smooth, infinitely variable grinding - for precise seasoning in the kitchen or at the table. The open bowl design ensures maximum throughput when grinding salt. The material is wear and corrosion resistant. So you can be sure that the salt in your mill will not corrode the grinding mechanism. As ceramic is non-static, it also prevents blockages. This ensures a high output of ground salt every time you grind.
As well as the features of the Precision Mills, Gourmet Precision mills take grinding control further, with 3 pre-set settings you can select a fine grind for sauces or effortlessly switch to a more coarse grind for tomato salads and pizzas.
Salt cannot be used in a mill with a carbon steel mechanism as this will rust the mechanism.
Precision Mills
All of our premium pepper mills feature our patented carbon steel Precision+ mechanism, which was developed in conjunction with Nottingham University’s Aroma Laboratory. Representing a new level of performance, our
Precision+ mechanism is able to deliver more pepper per turn and is scientifically proven to release more flavour than ever before. All of our premium salt mills feature a unique sharp ceramic mechanism which prevents corrosion over time unlikeother salt mills that feature a metal mechanism.
Our salt mills are intended for use with dry salt crystals only.
The designs of our mill mechanisms were created in-house by Cole & Mason and are IP protected to ensure no imitations.
Furthermore, they are confidently supported by our Lifetime Guarantee.
